Same Wrestler. Different Gears
Most wrestlers think branding is a color.
Pick your color, slap it on your gear, done. And yes, color matters. We've talked about that. But color alone is not a brand. Color is a tool. And like any tool, it has limits.
What happens when you want to switch it up? When you want a different look for a big show, a new concept for a new chapter, a gear that feels fresh without losing what you've built?
That's where most wrestlers get stuck. And that's exactly where patterns come in.
The Element That Never Changes
Think about CM Punk.
Over the years, Punk has worn a lot of different gears. Different colors, different combinations, different moods. But look closer at how he organizes those colors. Every single time, he comes back to the same visual language, the imagery of Chicago. The stars and stripes on his gear mirror the city flag, connecting where he comes from to everything he wears.
The colors change. The system never does.
That's not a coincidence. That's a decision. And it's the difference between a wrestler with multiple looks and a wrestler with a brand.
When the Concept Changes But the Identity Doesn't
Rey Mysterio takes it even further.
Rey has worn superheroes, villains, tributes to Mexican culture, original concepts. Batman. Spider-Man. The Joker. Aztec warriors. The man has one of the most varied wardrobes in wrestling history, and somehow, every single gear is unmistakably his.
How?
The cross on his mask. The eagle wings on the sides. No matter what character he's playing, no matter what color he's wearing; those two elements are always there. Every single time.
The concept changes. The colors change. The identity never does.
That's the pattern doing its job.
What This Means For You
You don't need to be CM Punk or Rey Mysterio to apply this. You just need to ask yourself one question:
What is the one element that is absolutely mine?
It can be a shape. A symbol. A graphic pattern. A way of composing your gear. Anything, as long as it shows up consistently every time you step through that curtain.
Color is not your only friend when it comes to building your brand. Patterns work alongside it. And when you find the right one, it becomes the thread that connects every look you'll ever have — no matter how different they are from each other.
Find your concept. Find your pattern. Own it.
And let it evolve with you.
